Comfort Club Begins a New Era with Single, “Not Over Falling For You Yet”

The perfect love song --or maybe anti-love song, depends on how you look at it--hit the music world last week! The indie-pop project based out of Los Angeles, Comfort Club (aka Colin Tracey), released his second single of the year, “Not Over Falling For You Yet.” Taking us through the motions of a premature heartbreak, Comfort Club took the time to give us some insight on the production, new sound, and future of his music!

For fans of Valley, The 1975, or The BAND Camino, “Not Over Falling For You Yet” should surely find its way into your upbeat, heartache summer playlist. Comfort Club plays with the juxtaposition of a high tempo song, while also crushing hearts through a breakup storyline and insane vocal parts. The song began to take shape during the drive to a recording session that would spark a fresh idea for the songwriter. Comfort Club goes on to explain the concept behind the song, and how it “came from that feeling of someone else pulling the rug out from under you when you’re starting to fall in love with them.” He elaborates on the overall meaning by saying, “I don’t even know if it translates in the song. Part of me thinks it just kind of feels more like a love song than like an anti-love song. But it's somewhere in the middle; I guess it's everyone's interpretation.” With lyrics like ‘Holding it together for you/ So go easy on me while I fall apart,’ this song is nothing short of gut-wrenching, yet somehow still makes us want to get up and dance.

Comfort Club is reeling in a new sound through working with producer Atlas in Motion, however, the production was not without its trials and tribulations. The current version of “Not Over Falling For You Yet” was not the original version. Comfort Club explains, “Basically in the process of making this, the file with the music got corrupted. So, we were stuck with just a production of the song and we had to decide whether we wanted to start over or just use what we had,” he goes on, “I think the reason that it's memorable and something that I’m happy about is because it taught me to just go with the flow and music doesn’t have to be perfect; just finish the song as best as [I] can and put it out. That was a big moment for me to sort of break through that perfectionism.”

Lacing “Not Over Falling For You Yet” with dazzling vocal layers, intriguing guitar synths, and an elaborate beat drop, the production of this single is a banger and a half. With a slower start to the song, Comfort Club easily enters the vocal parts with a higher falsetto that sounds effortless, and leads to an enrapturing bridge with a beat drop that will go crazy during any live performance. When asked about playing the song in front of an audience he recounts, “Just the way that it starts has this very muted, low beginning and then it just opens up into this huge pop thing, and it's just so fun right when the beat drops!”

Incorporating more DIY, indie-pop energy and sounds into his music, “Not Over Falling For You Yet” is just the beginning of a new sonic era for the singer-songwriter. Comfort Club describes the current direction of his music: “This song is indicative of the sound I'm trying to make in the future. I want to focus more on using synths, producing more, building better drum parts, and adding more guitar and vocal layers.” With this single being the first off a new project Comfort Club is working on, saying we are excited for the future is an understatement! “I’m not going to give a ton of details on it yet because it's not fully finished,” he explains, “A lot of new music is coming this year, and I’m looking to release it at a faster pace than I have in the past.” If “Not Over Falling For You Yet” is just the beginning of this new era, we cannot wait for what the rest of the year has in store for Comfort Club!
